Magazine Featured Article Analysis 2

This is a featured article form Kerrang! And a few more of the main features are present. There is a clear headline which spreads across both pages and like the NME article acts as a quote so the reader wants to know who it was that said it and what the context is. Also, the words ‘The Best MCR’ are a lot bolder than the rest of the headline so if there are any My Chemical Romance fans flicking through the magazine, they will feel the need to read on.
There is a kicker as well, just below the headline. The band’s name is in bold so if anyone read the headline and didn’t know what ‘MCR’ meant, they could just divert their gaze down and find out almost instantly. There is an ellipsis at the end of the kicker, which is basically a placeholder for the words “read on to find out more”. It also to an extent wants the reader to find out more, as if the sentence hasn’t finished and the only way to know how it ends is to read the rest of the article.

There is a drop cap here as well, which is a different colour to the body text to make it stand out even more. The body text itself is very limited when compared to the number of images on the pages. This is to attract to its target audience more as teenagers are infamous for just looking at the pictures and seeing if they’re good before actually reading anything. The small amount of text that there is is still in column format, and even though it isn’t justified there are clearly distinguished gutters, like in the NME article.
What this article has that the NME one didn’t is sidebars. The sidebar to the right of this article is relevant to the article because it highlights some upcoming singles from MCR, so the writer presumes once you’ve read the article about them, you’ll immediately want to buy some of their music.
The only feature that I can identify that is missing from this article is subheadings for the body text, but this, like the other article may be irrelevant because of how short the article itself is.
